Grundy County is one of the 95 county of Tennessee, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the county was 14332 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 14220, giving it the 19th smallest population among Tennessee's county. The county encompasses an area of 361.14 square miles (935.35 square kilometre ), of which, 360.56 square miles (933.85 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.58 square miles (1.5 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 63rd largest by total area in Tennessee.

The population density was 39.7 people per square mile (15.33/kmē), it is the 17th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 6282 housing units at an average density of 17.4 per square mile (6.72/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.1% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 14220, The racial makeup of the county was 98.06% White, 0.6% Black or African American, 0.33% American Indian, 0.17% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.84% from two or more races.
