The July 2008 population estimate is 10125, It is the 31st smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county encompasses an area of 437.98 mi˛ (1134.36 square kilometre ), of which, 435.82 square miles (1128.77 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.16 square miles (5.59 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 17th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

For every 100 females there were 90.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
