Grundy County is a county in the United States of Illinois. As of 2000 the population was 37535. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 47958, It is Illinois's 32nd most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 430.42 sq mi (1114.78 sq km ), of which, 419.9 square miles (1087.54 sq km) of it is land and 10.52 square miles (27.25 sq km) of it is water, it is the 33rd smallest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 37535 residents, 14293 households, and 10278 families in the county. The population density was 89.4 people per square mile (34.52/kmē), making its Illinois's 27th most densely populated county. There were 15040 housing units at an average density of 35.8 per square mile (13.82/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.09. In the Grundy County, 26.6% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.3% were 18 to 24, 30.2% were 25 to 44, 22.5% were 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.4 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 47958, The racial makeup of the county was 46140 White, 966 Black or African American, 121 American Indian, 392 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 331 from two or more races.
