Grosse Pointe City is a United States city located in the Wayne County, Michigan, United States. As of 2000 the population was 5670. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 4996, It is the 172nd largest by population in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city has a total area of 2.28 mi˛ (5.91 sq km), of which, 1.07 square miles (2.77 sq km) of it is land and 1.21 square miles (3.13 sq km) of it is water, it is the 296th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5670 people, 2388 households, and 1560 families residing in the city. The population density was 5297.9 people per square mile (2045.53/km˛), making it the 15th most densely populated city in Michigan. There were 2504 housing units at an average density of 2340.2 per square mile (903.56/km˛). The average household size was 2.37 people, and the average family size was 3.02 people.
