Grimes County is a county located in the United States of Texas. The county has a population of 23552 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 25895 in July 2008, It is 99th most populous county in Texas. It covers total area of 801.16 square miles (2074.99 sq km), of which, 793.6 square miles (2055.41 sq km) of it is land and 7.56 square miles (19.58 sq km) of it is water, making it Texas's 51st smallest county by total area.

The population density was 29.7 people per square mile (11.47/kmē), making its Texas's 104th most densely populated county. There were 9490 housing units at an average density of 12 per square mile (4.63/kmē). The average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.18 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 117.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 124 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 25895, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 20718 White, 4657 Black or African American, 104 American Indian, 132 Asian, 15 Native Hawaiian, and 269 from two or more races.
