Greenville County is a county located in the United States of South Carolina. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 379616 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 438119, giving it the largest population among South Carolina's county. The county encompasses an area of 794.96 sq mi (2058.94 square kilometre ), of which, 790.08 square miles (2046.3 square kilometre) of it is land and 4.88 square miles (12.64 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 13th largest by total area among South Carolina's county.

The population density was 480.5 people per square mile (185.52/kmē), it is most densely populated county in South Carolina. There were 162803 housing units at an average density of 206.1 per square mile (79.58/kmē). The average household size was 2.47 people, and the average family size was 3 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 438119, The racial makeup of the county was 77.92% White, 18.31% Black or African American, 0.44% American Indian, 1.99% Asian, 0.11% Native Hawaiian, and 1.23% from two or more races.
