Greenup County is a county in the United States of Kentucky. In 2000, county's population was 36891 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 37388, It is 29th most populous county in Kentucky. Its area is just over 354.51 sq mi (918.18 sq km), of which, 346.11 square miles (896.42 sq km) of it is land and 8.41 square miles (21.78 sq km) of it is water, it is the 44th largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 37388, The racial makeup of the county was 97.91% White, 0.79% Black or African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.37% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.72% from two or more races.
