Greene County is a county located in the United States of Pennsylvania. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 40672 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 39344, giving it the 12th smallest population among Pennsylvania's county. It is spread over 577.95 miē (1496.88 kmē), of which, 575.86 square miles (1491.47 kmē ) of it is land and 2.09 square miles (5.41 kmē) of it is water, making it Pennsylvania's 39th largest county by total area.

The population density was 70.6 people per square mile (27.26/kmē), it is Pennsylvania's 19th least densely populated county. There were 16678 housing units at an average density of 29 per square mile (11.2/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 22.1% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 106.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.5 males. Its population was estimated at 39344 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 37400 White, 1484 Black or African American, 69 American Indian, 108 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 275 from two or more races.
