Greene County, Missouri is a county of the United States of Missouri. As of 2000 the population was 240391. Its population was estimated at 266944 in July 2008, It is the fifth most populous county in the U.S. state of Missouri. Its area is just over 677.8 sq mi (1755.49 square kilometre), of which, 674.97 square miles (1748.16 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.82 square miles (7.3 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 38th largest by total area among Missouri's county.

The population density was 356.1 people per square mile (137.49/kmē), it is sixth most densely populated county in Missouri. There were 104517 housing units at an average density of 154.8 per square mile (59.77/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.34 persons, and the average family size was 2.89 persons. In the county Age distribution was 22.3% under the age of 18, 13.8% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.6 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 266944, The racial makeup of the county was 249555 White, 7390 Black or African American, 1774 American Indian, 3488 Asian, 179 Native Hawaiian, and 4558 from two or more races.
