Greene County is a county located in the United States of Illinois. The population of county in 2000 stood at 14761 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 13644, giving it the 21st smallest population among Illinois's county. The county spans an area of 546.34 square miles (1415.01 sq km), of which, 543.09 square miles (1406.6 sq km) of it is land and 3.25 square miles (8.42 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 48th largest by total area in Illinois.

There were 6332 housing units at an average density of 11.7 per square mile (4.52/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 13644, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.45% White, 0.33% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.15% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.76% from two or more races.
