Greene County is one of the 159 county of Georgia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Greene County had an official population of 14406 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 15635, It is the 104th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Georgia. It has total area of 406.24 miē (1052.16 kmē), of which, 388.28 square miles (1005.64 kmē) of it is land and 17.96 square miles (46.52 kmē) of it is water, it is the 56th largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14406 people, 5477 households, and 4040 families living in the county. The population density was 37.1 people per square mile (14.32/kmē), it would be the 51st least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 6653 housing units at an average density of 17.1 per square mile (6.6/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.59 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25.1% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 15635, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 9343 White, 6088 Black or African American, 47 American Indian, 55 Asian, 13 Native Hawaiian, and 89 from two or more races.
