Greencastle City is a one of the Putnam County, Indiana, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 9880 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 10145 in July 2008, It is the 71st largest by population in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its area is just over 5.35 square miles (13.86 sq km), of which, 5.3 square miles (13.73 sq km) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 sq km) of it is water, it is the 89th largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9880 people in the city, organized into 3353 households, and 2038 families residing in the city.
