Greenbrier County is a county located in West Virginia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 34453 as per the Census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 34567, It is the 16th largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1024.43 mi˛ (2653.26 sq km), of which, 1021.26 square miles (2645.05 sq km) of it is land and 3.17 square miles (8.21 sq km) of it is water, giving it the second largest by total area among West Virginia's county.

The population density was 33.7 people per square mile (13.01/km˛), making it the 18th least densely populated county in West Virginia. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 21.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 34567, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.17% White, 3.06% Black or African American, 0.34% American Indian, 0.23% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.19% from two or more races.
