Green River City is a city located in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The city has a population of 11808 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 12149, It is the seventh largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 14.02 mi˛ (36.31 square kilometre), of which, 13.71 square miles (35.51 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.32 square miles (0.83 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Wyoming's 33rd largest by total area. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Wyoming.

The population density was 861.5 people per square mile (332.63/km˛), it is the 47th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The population's age distribution was 31.1% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.7 males. The median age of the city's population was 34.1 years, The median age of males was 33.6 years, for females the median age was 34.5 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 10879 White, 32 Black or African American, 160 American Indian, 38 Asian, 7 Native Hawaiian, 192 from two or more races and 500 Ohter races.
