Grayson County is one of the 135 county of Virginia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The county has a population of 17917 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 15969, It is the 42nd least populous county in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is spread over 445.9 square miles (1154.88 sq km), of which, 442.64 square miles (1146.43 sq km ) of it is land and 3.26 square miles (8.44 sq km) of it is water, it is the 39th largest in terms of geographical size.

In the county the population was spread out, with 19.5% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 92.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 91.2 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 15969, The racial makeup of the county was 96.43% White, 2.42% Black or African American, 0.15% American Indian, 0.05% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, and 0.78% from two or more races.
