Gratiot County is a county located in the United States of Michigan. The county has a population of 42285 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 42245, making it the 40th most populous county in Michigan. The county spans an area of 571.61 mi˛ (1480.46 square kilometre), of which, 570.13 square miles (1476.63 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.48 square miles (3.83 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 15th smallest by total area among Michigan's county.

The population's age distribution was 23.8% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 108.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.1 males. Its population was estimated at 42245 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.72% White, 4.86% Black or African American, 0.62% American Indian, 0.52% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.26% from two or more races.
