Grant County is a county in the United States of West Virginia. In 2000, county's population was 11299 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 12047, giving it the 13th smallest population among West Virginia's county. Its area is just over 480.19 sq mi (1243.69 kmē), of which, 477.21 square miles (1235.97 kmē) of it is land and 2.99 square miles (7.74 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 19th largest by total area among West Virginia's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11299 people, 4591 households, and 3274 families residing in the county. The population density was 23.7 people per square mile (9.15/kmē), it would be the ninth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. There were 6105 housing units at an average density of 12.8 per square mile (4.94/kmē). The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.87. In the Grant County, 22.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.8% were 18 to 24, 27.5% were 25 to 44, 26.8% were 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.5 males. Its population was estimated at 12047 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 98.1% White, 0.9% Black or African American, 0.24% American Indian, 0.26% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.48% from two or more races.
