Grant County is a United States county located in the United States of South Dakota. The county has a population of 7847 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7101, It is South Dakota's 25th most populous county. The county encompasses an area of 687.91 mi˛ (1781.68 sq km ), of which, 682.51 square miles (1767.69 sq km) of it is land and 5.4 square miles (13.99 sq km) of it is water, it is the 19th smallest by area in the U.S. state of South Dakota.

The population's age distribution was 26.6% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.1 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 7101, The racial makeup of the county was 7016 White, 1 Black or African American, 44 American Indian, 17 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 23 from two or more races.
