Granite County is a county located in Montana, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The county has a population of 2830 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2821, making it the 16th least populous county in Montana. It is spread over 1733.11 mi˛ (4488.73 sq km), of which, 1727.44 square miles (4474.05 sq km ) of it is land and 5.67 square miles (14.69 sq km) of it is water, it is the 17th smallest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2830 people, 1200 households, and 785 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.6 people per square mile (0.62/km˛), it is 16th least densely populated county in Montana. There were 2074 housing units at an average density of 1.2 per square mile (0.46/km˛). The average household size was 2.33 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.2% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 95.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 97.4 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2821, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 2726 White, 0 Black or African American, 40 American Indian, 4 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 50 from two or more races.
