Grand Prairie City is a city located in Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis counties, Texas, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 127427 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 160641, making it Texas's 17th largest. It has total area of 81.54 sq mi (211.19 square kilometre), of which, 71.4 square miles (184.93 square kilometre) of it is land and 10.14 square miles (26.26 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Texas's 20th largest by total area. It is ranks 14 in the size of its inland waterways in Texas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 127427 residents, 43791 households, and 32333 families in the city. The population density was 1784.6 people per square mile (689.04/kmē), it is Texas's 215th most densely populated city. There were 46425 housing units at an average density of 650.2 per square mile (251.04/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.9 persons, and the average family size was 3.38 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 30.5% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105.1 females.
