Gove County is one of the 105 county of Kansas, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 3068. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 2548, making it Kansas's 12th smallest county. It is spread over 1071.47 square miles (2775.09 square kilometre), of which, 1071.38 square miles (2774.86 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.09 square miles (0.23 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of Kansas.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 3068 people, 1245 households, and 861 families living in the county. The population density was 2.9 people per square mile (1.12/kmē), it would be the ninth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Kansas. There were 1423 housing units at an average density of 1.3 per square mile (0.5/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 people, and the average family size was 3.01 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 2548, The racial makeup of the county was 2509 White, 3 Black or African American, 7 American Indian, 3 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 26 from two or more races.
