Gothenburg City is a United States city located in the Dawson County, Nebraska, United States. The city has a population of 3619 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 3693, It is 43rd most populous in Nebraska. It covers total area of 2.59 sq mi (6.71 kmē), of which, 2.54 square miles (6.58 kmē) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 34th largest by total area among Nebraska. It is ranks 16 in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3619 people, 1457 households, and 989 families residing in the city. The population density was 1422.6 people per square mile (549.27/kmē), making it the 152nd most densely populated city in Nebraska.
