Goodhue County is a one of the county from Minnesota's 87 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. It is home to over 44127 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 45897, making it Minnesota's 20th largest county. Its area is just over 780.44 sq mi (2021.33 square kilometre), of which, 758.27 square miles (1963.91 square kilometre) of it is land and 22.17 square miles (57.42 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 30th largest by size in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 44127 people in the county, organized into 16983 households, and 11900 families living in the county. The population density was 58.2 people per square mile (22.47/kmē), it is 21st most densely populated county in Minnesota. There were 17879 housing units at an average density of 23.6 per square mile (9.11/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.04. Age range in the county was well distributed with 26.5% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.4 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 45897, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 44201 White, 454 Black or African American, 515 American Indian, 305 Asian, 15 Native Hawaiian, and 407 from two or more races.
