Gogebic County is a United States county located in the United States of Michigan. In 2000, the population was 17370. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 16043, giving it the 16th smallest population among Michigan's county. The county extends throughout a territory of 1476.43 sq mi (3823.94 sq km ), of which, 1101.86 square miles (2853.8 sq km) of it is land and 374.57 square miles (970.13 sq km) of it is water, making it the 21st largest by size in Michigan.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 17370 residents, 7425 households, and 4581 families in the county. The population density was 15.8 people per square mile (6.1/kmē), it is Michigan's ninth least densely populated county. There were 10839 housing units at an average density of 9.8 per square mile (3.78/kmē). The average household size was 2.2 people, and the average family size was 2.81 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 20.4% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.1 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 16043, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 90.48% White, 5.02% Black or African American, 2.77% American Indian, 0.29% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.45% from two or more races.
