Gilliam County, Oregon is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 1915. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 1747, giving it the third smallest population among Oregon's county. The county extends throughout a territory of 1222.84 square miles (3167.14 sq km ), of which, 1204.07 square miles (3118.53 sq km) of it is land and 18.77 square miles (48.61 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 25th largest by total area in Oregon.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1915 people, 819 households, and 544 families living in the county. The population density was 1.6 people per square mile (0.62/kmē), it is fourth least densely populated county in Oregon. There were 1043 housing units at an average density of 0.9 per square mile (0.35/kmē). The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.85. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.9 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 1747, The racial makeup of the county was 1704 White, 5 Black or African American, 18 American Indian, 2 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 18 from two or more races.
