Germantown City, Shelby County, Tennessee is a city located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The city has a population of 37348 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 37251, making it the 13th most populous in Tennessee. Its area is just over 17.62 square miles (45.64 square kilometre), of which, 17.58 square miles (45.53 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 37th largest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee.

As of the census of 2000, there were 37348 residents, 5369 households, and 3232 families in the city. The population density was 2124.1 people per square mile (820.12/kmē), it is Tennessee's seventh most densely populated city. There were 13676 housing units at an average density of 777.9 per square mile (300.35/kmē). The average household size was 2.82 people, and the average family size was 3.14 people.
