Georgia is a state located in , in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 8186453. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the state is 9685744, It is the tenth largest by population in the U.S. state of America. The state extends throughout a territory of 59424.77 sq mi (153909.45 kmē ), of which, 57906.14 square miles (149976.21 kmē) of it is land and 1518.63 square miles (3933.23 kmē) of it is water, it is the 24th largest by area in the U.S. state of America.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8186453 people in the state, organized into 3006369 households, and 2111647 families residing in the state. The population density was 141.4 people per square mile (54.59/kmē), it would be the 18th most densely populated state in the U.S. state of America. There were 3281737 housing units at an average density of 56.7 per square mile (21.89/kmē). The average household size was 2.65 people, and the average family size was 3.14 people. The population's age distribution was 26.5% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. The median age of the state's population was 33.4 years, The median age of males was 32.1 years, for females the median age was 34.6 years. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8186453, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 65.07% White, 28.7% Black or African American, 0.27% American Indian, 2.12% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 1.39% from two or more races and 2.4% Other races.
