Georgetown County is a county located in the United States of South Carolina. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 55797 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 60731, It is 22nd most populous county in South Carolina. It covers total area of 1035 square miles (2680.64 sq km), of which, 814.83 square miles (2110.4 sq km) of it is land and 220.16 square miles (570.21 sq km) of it is water, making it the seventh largest by size in South Carolina. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in South Carolina.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 55797 people, 21659 households, and 15844 families residing in the county. The population density was 68.5 people per square mile (26.45/kmē), making its South Carolina's 26th most densely populated county. There were 28282 housing units at an average density of 34.7 per square mile (13.4/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113.1 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 60731, The racial makeup of the county was 39661 White, 20341 Black or African American, 98 American Indian, 295 Asian, 24 Native Hawaiian, and 312 from two or more races.
