Gaston Town is a town located in the Northampton County, North Carolina, United States. As of 2000 the population was 973. In July 2008, its estimated population was 881, making it the 394th most populous in North Carolina. The town extends throughout a territory of 1.83 sq mi (4.74 sq km ), of which, 1.69 square miles (4.38 sq km) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 sq km) of it is water, making it North Carolina's 399th largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 973 residents, 429 households, and 297 families in the town. The population density was 575.5 people per square mile (222.2/kmē), giving it the 396th most densely populated town among the North Carolina. There were 479 housing units at an average density of 283.4 per square mile (109.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.27 persons, and the average family size was 2.73 persons. In the town the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 82.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.5 males. The median age was 37.4 years, the median age of male residents at 37.3 and the median age of female residents at 37.7. The racial makeup of the town was 66.39% White, 31.76% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.23% from two or more races and 0.31% Other races.
