Garrett County is a one of the county from Maryland's 24 counties and independent city, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 29846 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 29698, giving it the third smallest population among Maryland's county. It covers total area of 655.9 miē (1698.77 kmē), of which, 647.96 square miles (1678.21 kmē) of it is land and 7.94 square miles (20.56 kmē) of it is water, making it Maryland's sixth largest county by total area.

The population density was 46.1 people per square mile (17.8/kmē), it is the least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Maryland. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 29698, The racial makeup of the county was 98.36% White, 0.86% Black or African American, 0.08% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.46% from two or more races.
