The county extends throughout a territory of 233.88 sq mi (605.75 kmē ), of which, 231.21 square miles (598.83 kmē) of it is land and 2.67 square miles (6.92 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 28th smallest by total area among Kentucky's county.

In the county the population was distributed as follows: 24.4% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93 males.
