Garland County, Arkansas is a county located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 88068. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 97465, giving it the seventh largest population among Arkansas's county. Its area is just over 734.57 mi˛ (1902.53 square kilometre), of which, 677.22 square miles (1753.99 square kilometre) of it is land and 57.35 square miles (148.54 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 26th largest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Arkansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 88068 people, 37813 households, and 25250 families residing in the county. The population density was 130 people per square mile (50.19/km˛), it is the sixth most populated county in terms of population density. There were 44953 housing units at an average density of 66.4 per square mile (25.64/km˛). The average household size was 2.28 people, and the average family size was 2.78 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 21.3% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 97465, The racial makeup of the county was 88.89% White, 8.24% Black or African American, 0.65% American Indian, 0.61% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.58% from two or more races.
