Gardiner City, Maine is a city of the Kennebec County, Maine, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 6198 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6100, It is the 26th largest by population in the U.S. state of Maine. It covers total area of 16.61 square miles (43.02 square kilometre), of which, 15.67 square miles (40.59 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.95 square miles (2.46 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 17th largest by area in the U.S. state of Maine.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6198 people in the city, organized into 2510 households, and 1603 families residing in the city. The population density was 395.6 people per square mile (152.74/kmē), making it the 33rd least densely populated city in Maine. There were 2702 housing units at an average density of 172.4 per square mile (66.56/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. The median age is 38.1 years, the median age of male residents at 37 and the median age of female residents at 39.1.
