Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 30912, It is 16th least populous county in Ohio. The county spans an area of 471.13 square miles (1220.22 square kilometre), of which, 468.78 square miles (1214.13 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.36 square miles (6.11 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 38th largest by area in the U.S. state of Ohio.

The population's age distribution was 25% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 30912, The racial makeup of the county was 29348 White, 874 Black or African American, 143 American Indian, 163 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 384 from two or more races.
