Gallatin County is a United States county located in the United States of Kentucky. The population of the county was 7870 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 8071, It is the 12th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county comprises an area of 104.67 miē (271.09 kmē), of which, 98.81 square miles (255.92 kmē) of it is land and 5.87 square miles (15.2 kmē) of it is water, it is the second smallest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 79.7 people per square mile (30.77/kmē), it is 43rd most densely populated county in Kentucky. In the county Age distribution was 28.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 31% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 8071, The racial makeup of the county was 96.34% White, 1.87% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.33% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.14% from two or more races.
