Gainesville City is a city located in the Hall County, Georgia, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 25578 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 35668, It is the 28th largest in terms of population. The city encompasses an area of 29.1 mi˛ (75.37 square kilometre ), of which, 27.08 square miles (70.14 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.02 square miles (5.23 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 14th largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 25578 residents, 8537 households, and 5435 families in the city. The population density was 944.4 people per square mile (364.63/km˛), making its Georgia's 147th most densely populated city. There were 9076 housing units at an average density of 335.2 per square mile (129.42/km˛). The average household size was 2.79 people, and the average family size was 3.39 people. The racial makeup of the city was 16680 White, 4023 Black or African American, 76 American Indian, 687 Asian, 34 Native Hawaiian, 428 from two or more races and 3650 Ohter races.
