Gainesville City is a city located in the Hall County, Georgia, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 25578 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 35668, It is the 28th largest in terms of population. The city encompasses an area of 29.1 mi˛ (75.37 square kilometre ), of which, 27.08 square miles (70.14 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.02 square miles (5.23 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 14th largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 25578 residents, 8537 households, and 5435 families in the city. The population density was 944.4 people per square mile (364.63/km˛), making its Georgia's 147th most densely populated city.
