Gainesville City is a city in the Alachua County, Florida, United States. The city has a population of 95447 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 114916, It is the 14th most populous in the U.S. state of Florida. The city extends throughout a territory of 49.1 mi˛ (127.17 square kilometre ), of which, 48.18 square miles (124.79 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.92 square miles (2.38 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 21st largest by total area in Florida.

As of the census of 2000, there were 95447 people in the city, organized into 37279 households, and 18343 families living in the city.
