According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 532.9 square miles (1380.2 square kilometre), of which, 496.17 square miles (1285.07 square kilometre) of it is land and 36.73 square miles (95.13 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 20th smallest by total area in New York.
