Fruita City is a city in the Mesa County, Colorado, United States. In 2000, the population was 6478. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 7418, It is the 73rd largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 6.02 sq mi (15.59 square kilometre), of which, 5.94 square miles (15.38 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.09 square miles (0.23 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 81st largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6478 people, 2447 households, and 1736 families living in the city. The population density was 1091 people per square mile (421.24/kmē), giving it the 174th most densely populated city among the Colorado. There were 2610 housing units at an average density of 439.4 per square mile (169.65/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 people, and the average family size was 3.04 people.
