Frontier County is one of the 93 county of Nebraska, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 3099. In July 2008, its estimated population was 2584, making it the 22nd least populous county in Nebraska. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 980.06 square miles (2538.34 square kilometre), of which, 974.55 square miles (2524.07 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.51 square miles (14.27 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 17th largest by total area among Nebraska's county.

The population density was 3.2 people per square mile (1.24/kmē), it would be the 20th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Nebraska.
