Frederick County is one of the 135 county of Virginia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 59209 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 73898, giving it the 24th largest population among Virginia's county. The county has a total area of 415.62 square miles (1076.45 square kilometre), of which, 414.63 square miles (1073.89 square kilometre) of it is land and 1 square miles (2.59 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 46th largest by size in Virginia.

The population density was 142.8 people per square mile (55.14/kmē), giving it the 57th most densely populated county among the Virginia. In the county Age distribution was 26.4% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.4 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 73898, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 68632 White, 3286 Black or African American, 145 American Indian, 877 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, and 940 from two or more races.
