Franklin Town is a one of the Macon County, North Carolina, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Franklin Town is home to 3490 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 3967, making it North Carolina's 171st largest. Its area is just over 3.86 mi˛ (10 square kilometre), of which, 3.83 square miles (9.92 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, making it North Carolina's 227th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3490 people, 1627 households, and 900 families residing in the town. The population density was 911.2 people per square mile (351.82/km˛), making it the 235th most densely populated town in North Carolina. There were 1916 housing units at an average density of 500.3 per square mile (193.17/km˛). The average household size was 2.08 persons, and the average family size was 2.79 persons. The population's age distribution was 21.3% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 23.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 79.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.8 males. The median age was 42.3 years, the median age of male residents at 37.5 and the median age of female residents at 46.4. The racial makeup of the town was 3330 White, 69 Black or African American, 11 American Indian, 22 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 40 from two or more races and 17 Ohter races.
