It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 20006, It is the 18th smallest parish by population in the U.S. state of Louisiana. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the parish has a total area of 635.43 miē (1645.76 kmē), of which, 623.61 square miles (1615.14 kmē) of it is land and 11.82 square miles (30.61 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 42nd largest by total area in Louisiana.
