The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 72783, It is the 16th largest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 1265.35 mi˛ (3277.24 sq km ), of which, 1242.4 square miles (3217.8 sq km) of it is land and 22.95 square miles (59.44 sq km) of it is water, making it Washington's 27th largest county by total area.

In the county the population was distributed as follows: 34.6% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 109.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 72783, The racial makeup of the county was 92.79% White, 2.59% Black or African American, 1.09% American Indian, 1.98% Asian, 0.15% Native Hawaiian, and 1.4% from two or more races.
