Franklin County, Vermont is a county located in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 45417 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 47949, It is fifth most populous county in Vermont. The county spans an area of 692.02 square miles (1792.32 square kilometre), of which, 637.07 square miles (1650 square kilometre) of it is land and 54.95 square miles (142.32 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the seventh largest by total area in Vermont. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.

The population density was 71.3 people per square mile (27.53/kmē), giving it the fourth most densely populated county among the Vermont. There were 19191 housing units at an average density of 30.1 per square mile (11.62/kmē). The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.08. In the county the population was spread out, with 28.1% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 11% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 47949, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 46173 White, 260 Black or African American, 529 American Indian, 191 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, and 778 from two or more races.
