Franklin County, Vermont is a county located in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 45417 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 47949, It is fifth most populous county in Vermont. The county spans an area of 692.02 square miles (1792.32 square kilometre), of which, 637.07 square miles (1650 square kilometre) of it is land and 54.95 square miles (142.32 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the seventh largest by total area in Vermont. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.

The population density was 71.3 people per square mile (27.53/kmē), giving it the fourth most densely populated county among the Vermont. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 47949, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 46173 White, 260 Black or African American, 529 American Indian, 191 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, and 778 from two or more races.
