Franklin County is one of the 44 county of Idaho, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, the population was 11329. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 12454, It is the 24th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Idaho. Its area is just over 668.36 sq mi (1731.04 sq km), of which, 665.43 square miles (1723.46 sq km) of it is land and 2.92 square miles (7.56 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Idaho.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11329 residents, 3476 households, and 2873 families in the county. The population density was 17 people per square mile (6.56/kmē), making it the 18th most densely populated county in Idaho. There were 3872 housing units at an average density of 5.8 per square mile (2.24/kmē). It has an average household size was 3.24 persons, and the average family size was 3.64 persons. The population's age distribution was 37.3% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 12454, The racial makeup of the county was 12269 White, 19 Black or African American, 78 American Indian, 14 Asian, 6 Native Hawaiian, and 68 from two or more races.
