Franklin County is a county in the United States of Alabama. The county has a population of 31223 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 30801, It is the 36th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Alabama. The county extends throughout a territory of 646.51 miē (1674.45 kmē ), of which, 635.64 square miles (1646.3 kmē) of it is land and 10.86 square miles (28.13 kmē) of it is water, it is the 43rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

The population density was 49.1 people per square mile (18.96/kmē), it is 33rd most densely populated county in Alabama. Age range in the county was well distributed with 24.5% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males.
