Franklin County is a county in the United States of Alabama. The county has a population of 31223 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 30801, It is the 36th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Alabama. The county extends throughout a territory of 646.51 miē (1674.45 kmē ), of which, 635.64 square miles (1646.3 kmē) of it is land and 10.86 square miles (28.13 kmē) of it is water, it is the 43rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 30801, The racial makeup of the county was 93.79% White, 4.41% Black or African American, 0.44% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% Native Hawaiian, and 0.87% from two or more races.
