Franklin City is a city located in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 8405 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 8713, making it the 18th most populous in New Hampshire. Its area is just over 29.16 square miles (75.52 square kilometre), of which, 27.57 square miles (71.41 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.59 square miles (4.12 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the ninth largest by area in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in New Hampshire.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 8405 residents, 3319 households, and 2195 families in the city. The population density was 304.9 people per square mile (117.72/kmē), making its New Hampshire's second least densely populated city. There were 3676 housing units at an average density of 133.3 per square mile (51.47/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.47 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. The population's age distribution was 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males. The median age was 37.3 years, The median age of males was 35.5 years, for females the median age was 38.9 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 8161 White, 32 Black or African American, 23 American Indian, 43 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 116 from two or more races and 29 Ohter races.
