Franklin Borough is one of the borough of Sussex County, New Jersey, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. Franklin Borough had an official population of 5160 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 5077, giving it the 280th largest population among New Jersey. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 4.55 square miles (11.78 sq km), of which, 4.49 square miles (11.63 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, it is the 122nd largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5160 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 1150.2 people per square mile (444.09/kmē), it is the 91st least densely populated borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey. There were 1997 housing units at an average density of 444.8 per square mile (171.74/kmē). The average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.22 persons. In the borough the population was spread out, with 27.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 111.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 115.1 females. The median age is 36.7 years, The median age of males was 36.2 years, for females the median age was 37.3 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the borough was 95.1% White, 0.62% Black or African American, 0.35% American Indian, 1.47% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.24% from two or more races and 1.22% Other races.
