Foster County is a county located in North Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 3759 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 3447, It is 31st most populous county in North Dakota. It is spread over 646.72 square miles (1675 sq km), of which, 635.2 square miles (1645.16 sq km ) of it is land and 11.52 square miles (29.84 sq km) of it is water, making it North Dakota's second smallest county by total area.

For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 3447, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.64% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 0.78% American Indian, 0% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.41% from two or more races.
